The Black Sea basin is a strategically important region at the crossroads between Europe, the Middle East, and Asia serves as a pivotal East-West and North-South corridor and a crossroad of geopolitics, commerce, energy, and culture where the interests of foreign investors overlap. It is a very dynamic area that presents various challenges and offers numerous opportunities.

Historically, the Black Sea region, as crossroads and a bond between Europe and Asia, East and West since early times, has its own specific futures. Here different cultures, traditions and religions have intertwined, influenced and enriched each other. This gives the Black Sea region a prominent place on its own on the cultural scene.

The region has also been an important channel for communication, trade and transportation as well as food production and has supported large populations for thousands of years. However, its new role is a more challenging one, as being the main transport route of energy that the European countries mostly depend on. The multicultural perspectives of the region should be of considerable relevance also today, reflecting the contemporary challenges confronting us all in the global village.
